Providing Healthcare, Education, and Sustainability to Impoverished Communities

Bushiwi Community Development Partners and Zion Community Development Association are sister organizations that share a common goal - to improve the futures of our children in some of the most vulnerable villages in Eastern Uganda.

Who We Are

Bushiwi Community Development Partners (BCDP) is a community-based organisation rooted in the mountain villages of Bududa, Eastern Uganda. We are led by local people who know these communities as their home, working alongside volunteers who join us from around the world.

Whether a nurse training clinic staff, a teacher running a lesson, or a volunteer mixing mortar on a clinic wall, we share one goal: more educated, healthier and self-reliant communities.

What We Do

Our Programmes

Education

Bushiwi Infant & Primary School in Bududa teaches around 190 children from nursery to P.7, and our monthly outreaches bring hygiene, nutrition and health lessons to neighbouring schools.

Health & Immunizations

Zion Community Medical Clinic serves around 4,000 residents in Manafwa, open 24/7 for emergencies, and our monthly outreaches carry 500–750 vaccines on foot to children in the surrounding villages.

Community Building

We work in subsistence farming communities, where most families live on less than $20 USD a month and clean water, healthcare, education and proper nutrition are hard to come by. Where our communities go without, we do our best to fill the gap: a clinic that is still running today, a classroom where children can learn, and water systems that now provide drinking water for over 1,200 people at our clinic in Manafwa.

Our next step is a maternity ward. The nearest one sits 250 metres below our clinic, and for a mother in labour that means walking the equivalent of more than 85 flights of stairs down a muddy, slippery mountain path. No one should have to do that. Construction is already halfway done, but we have run out of funds to continue. You can be the difference here.

Our Impact

Lives touched since 2024

Since opening the Zion Community Medical Clinic in 2024, here is what your support has made possible.

Zion Community Medical Clinic

In Butooto sub-county, 7,599 people in 1,341 households once had no access to healthcare. The nearest hospital is nearly two hours away across mountains with no roads. Today the Zion Community Medical Clinic offers primary care Monday to Friday and emergency care 24/7, alongside immunisation outreaches and specialist camps.

Educating Our Youth

BCDP runs Bushiwi Infant & Primary School in Bushiwi Village, Bududa, where nine teachers educate around 190 children from nursery to P.7. Pupils study English, Lumasaba (the local language), reading and composition, science, religious education, mathematics and social studies, while our nursery classes learn through music, dance and storytelling. In 2026 the community began building a permanent two-room classroom to replace the old mud-and-stick structures; roofing, doors and flooring are still to be funded. The school runs on very limited funding and we struggle to pay our teachers a living wage. A gift of $28 (25 EUR) covers one child's education for a full term.
